Campaigns for the Kawempe North By-Election are officially underway as 10 candidates traverse the constituency, engaging voters in designated locations under the harmonized campaign programme set by the Electoral Commission.
The seat fell vacant in January 2025 following the death of former MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, leading to a hotly contested race in this densely populated constituency, which consists of nine parishes.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged all candidates and their supporters to maintain peaceful and orderly campaigns, ensuring adherence to the set schedule to avoid clashing.
The candidates will traverse all villafes in the the nine parishes of Kawempe North Constituency according to the scheduled program for each one
The 10 nominated candidates and their planned campaign activities as of March 03, 2025 are as follows: Faridah Nambi (NRM) i campaigning in Kanyanya, Muhammad Nsereko independent is in Kawempe II, Mukiibi Sadat of the FDC party is in Kikaya, Nalukoola Luyimbazi (NUP) is Kazo Angola, Kasacca Henry Mubiru (DP) in Kyabando, Hanifa Karadi, an independent is campaigning in Komamboga,Engenga Matuim, independent, is in Mpererewe. Others are Musitwa Ismail in Kawempe I, Luwemba Lusswa, Kyebando, among others.
The Electoral Commission has reminded candidates to follow the harmonized schedule and ensure their activities do not disrupt public order. Security agencies have been deployed across the constituency to ensure that campaigns remain peaceful and incident-free.
With Kawempe North being one of the most politically active areas in Kampala, the race is expected to be highly competitive, with candidates aggressively pitching their manifestos to voters ahead of polling day.
The campaigns will continue in the coming days until March 12 , 2025. According to the EC roadmap, elections will take place on March 13, 2025 .
