The Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayiga has offered to mediate to end internal wrangles within the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Katikkiro Mayiga was addressing a delegation of NUP officials led by the Leader of Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi. They had paid him a courtesy visit to purchase kits for Kabaka’s birthday run scheduled for April 6. They bought kits worth Shs 15 million.
“I am ready to mediate for you in case you face internal wrangles within your party,” Mayiga said
Ssenyonyi welcomed Katikkiro’s gesture and said NUP will work closely with Mengo.
“I take the opportunity to welcome his gesture of wise leadership and comradeship, and we promise to utilise you,” he said.

NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya also welcomed the call by Mayiga to foster reconciliation within the party.
“As we have always done, we take this matter seriously to talk to people we disagree with for the betterment of good governance,” Rubongoya said.
Mayiga’s offer of mediation comes at a time when NUP leadership fell out with Mathias Mpuuga, the former leader of the opposition, over the Shs 500 million saga.Mpuuga, who has close ties with Mengo, has since formed his political platform, The Democratic Alliance (DA).
