Karuma Bridge Closed for 3-Month Restoration: Alternative Routes Announced
The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, has announced the closure of Karuma Bridge to all traffic starting Monday, September 23rd, 2024.
The contractor will begin demolishing the concrete deck immediately, paving the way for major restoration work. This process is expected to last for three months.
Alternative Routes:
Motorists traveling from Kampala to Gulu or West Nile are advised to use the Luwero—Kafu—Masindi—Paraa route (through Murchison Falls National Park) to connect to Pakwach or Gulu via Olwiyo. This applies to motorists traveling from Gulu or West Nile as well.
For motorists traveling to Lira, the Rwenkunye—Apac route via the Masindi Port Ferry is recommended.
Alternatively, motorists heading to Lira can also use the Iganga—Nakalama—Tirinyi—Pallisa—Kumi—Soroti—Lira route and vice versa
