Karamoja to opposition, “Leave us to enjoy Museveni development”
Leaders of Karamoja region have assured opposition politicians in Kampala that they will not back down from supporting President Yoweri Museveni for NRM sole candidature in the 2021 polls, saying he is the only leader who believed in them when the rest of the country claimed they can not wait for Karamoja to develop.
“Now that God has given us a leader who has ensured that we have tarmac roads, schools, hospitals etc, we want to tell the people of Kampala to give us a chance to appreciate what government is doing for us. Wait for us in Kampala when we are dissatisfied, we shall find you there and say no,” Simon Peter Aleper, the NRM vice chairperson for Karamoja region said.
He was speaking during the regional leaders meeting comprising of members of parliament, RDCs, LCV chairpersons and councilors, NRM district executive committees and district league chairpersons, district departmental heads, OWC officers, NRM sub-county chairpersons, Municipal chairpersons and councilors and NRM Municipality executive at Naitakwae village, North Division in Moroto district yesterday. The President is in Karamoja region to promote the job and wealth creation campaign to ensure food security and income generation to fight poverty.
“Uganda’s kitchen is located in Kampala, a lot of cooking has been done there. Other areas already have good roads, schools, hospitals etc. As supervisor of the Kitchen you decided to come and see if the food has now reached Karamoja and some people want to stop you. Our statement of assurance is that we stand with you,” he said.
Shortly after, the NRM Chairperson for Kotido Hon. Abraham Lokii moved a resolution to support President Museveni as the NRM sole candidate for the election of NRM National Chairperson and Presidential candidate for 2021 and beyond. He was seconded by the chairpersons of Moroto, Kotido, Napak, Amudat, Nakapiripirit, Abim, Nadunget and Kaabong.
“We welcome the very important lessons on job and wealth creation by H.E the President and we stand together with all the members of the national resistance movement and Ugandans,” they said in a joint statement.
Their resolution was in support of the CEC resolution and that of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus to have Museveni as their sole candidate.
