Karamoja Ministers Promote Development Solutions in Meeting with Stakeholders

The Ministers for Karamoja Affairs, Hon. Lokeris Peter and Hon. Wamala Nambozo Florence (State Minister), have pledged to expedite programs aimed at transforming the Karamoja Sub-region.

During their inaugural visit to the region, the ministers engaged with stakeholders in Kotido district to introduce themselves, foster discussions, and address critical issues.

“We came to introduce ourselves to you, the stakeholders, interact, and discuss issues with a view of tackling them head-on to improve and transform Karamoja Sub-region,” stated Hon. Lokeris.

He emphasized the importance of discouraging acts of revenge among criminal elements and urged security commanders and local leaders to collaborate in maintaining security and eradicating criminality to facilitate investment opportunities and accelerate development.

Hon. Wamala Nambozo Florence, Minister of State for Karamoja Affairs and Woman Member of Parliament for Sironko district, pledged to collaborate closely with local leaders to combat food insecurity, enhance water provision for production, and ensure compulsory education for all children.

The meeting recognized the need for swift implementation of the Karamoja Development Agency (KDA) to realize transformation.

Brig Gen Felix Busizoori, Deputy Commander of 3 Division, highlighted the relative peace in the sub-region, attributed to adherence to the Presidential Amnesty window, community mobilization, and cross-border engagements.

Senior Commissioner of Police Elias Kasirabo, Commandant of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, assured leaders of continued support in bridging gaps by providing access to police services, enhancing road checkpoints, and regulating livestock markets to curb theft.

As a sign of voluntary support for the ongoing disarmament operation, Pusia Lodomosia from Jimos village in Kotido district surrendered a Sub Machine Gun to the UPDF Division leadership.

The meeting was attended by Members of Parliament from North Karamoja, Resident District Commissioners, Chairpersons of District Local Governments, heads of security agencies, and opinion leaders, among others.
