Kabale Man Receives 70-Year Prison Term for Killing Two Girlfriends
The High Court in Kabale has given a 25-year-old man named Denis Arinaitwe, who works as a tailor in Kabale, a sentence of 70 years in jail.
This comes after he was found guilty of brutally killing two of his partners, a female police officer, and a university student.
During the trial presided over by Kabale’s resident Judge Justice Samuel Emokor, it was revealed by the prosecution that Arinaitwe was responsible for the murders of his two partners. The first murder happened in Rwamukundi village, Kirigime ward, in the southern division of Kabale Municipality, and the second at Kabale Central Police Station.
The prosecution explained to the court that Arinaitwe committed the first murder of his partner, Sarah Naturinda, who was a second-year student at Kabale University. Her body was discovered in her rented room in Rwamukundi village, Kirigime ward, with signs of strangulation.
Following the first murder, Arinaitwe proceeded to Kabale Central Police Station where he shot and killed a police officer, Constable Caroline Owomugisha, who was attached to the Field Force Unit (FFU). This was reportedly due to domestic issues.
Arinaitwe later tried to end his own life by shooting himself with the gun he had taken from Constable Naturinda. However, he was quickly taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital where he received medical attention.
High Court Judge Samuel Emokor condemned Arinaitwe’s actions as cruel and uncivilized and as a result, he was sentenced to 70 years in prison, with 35 years for each count of murder.
