The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has called for peace, responsible leadership, and proper use of social media as Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr in Uganda and across the world.
In his Eid message issued on March 17, 2026 from the Office of the King of Buganda in Kampala, the Kabaka thanked Allah for enabling believers to complete the holy month of fasting and encouraged the faithful to continue upholding the spiritual values learned during the period.
“We thank Allah for bringing us to this glorious day after fasting. We encourage you to continue honouring the practice of fasting and supplicating to Allah because of the benefits it brings to individuals and to our nation,” the Kabaka said.
The Buganda monarch also congratulated leaders who recently won elections at different levels and urged them to fulfill the promises they made to the people, especially in fighting corruption and addressing poverty.
“Congratulations to those elected in various leadership positions. We hope that the elected officials will fulfil the promises they made to their constituents and particularly work to fight corruption and reduce the poverty affecting our people,” he said.
The Kabaka also expressed concern about reports of violence that have occurred in some parts of Uganda, including areas within Buganda, especially following the election period.
“We have heard about acts of violence in parts of Uganda, especially in Buganda after the elections. We encourage dialogue among all participants so that true peace can be strengthened,” he said.
Addressing the growing influence of social media among young people, the monarch singled out the popular platform TikTok and called on youth to use it responsibly.
“Many of our people, especially the youth, are very fond of TikTok. Platforms like this can help share information, but we urge the youth to use them responsibly by sharing accurate information and discussing issues that build the nation such as religious education, modern agriculture, education, medicine and good governance rather than exposing and insulting others,” the Kabaka said.
He further asked the public to continue praying for the Buganda Kingdom and supporting efforts aimed at improving the welfare of the people, particularly those struggling with poverty.
“We ask you to continue praying for our Kingdom which cares for the common person and works to improve the poverty situation many of them face while protecting their property including land,” the Kabaka added.
The Kabaka concluded by wishing Muslims and all people a peaceful and blessed Eid celebration.
