Africa’s largest charity run is back! The 13th Edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run 2026 was officially launched at Bulange, Mengo, under the theme: “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child and the Fight to End HIV/AIDS by 2030.”
The annual run is more than a celebration—it is a movement uniting communities, families, and partners in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Over 130,000 runners are expected to participate across Lubiri, Mengo, and beyond, highlighting Uganda’s commitment to health, awareness, and community mobilisation.
The launch was presided over by Buganda’s Katikkiro, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga who highlighted that awareness and mobilisation remain the strongest forces against HIV. “This run is a tool to deliver the right messages, engage communities, and educate people about HIV. From the grassroots to leaders, everyone has a role to play. Once the Kabaka added his voice to this fight, Buganda was mobilised. Infection rates have gone down, but more still needs to be done.”
Mr. Kim Gustavsen, UNAIDS Country Director, praised His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for his role as a goodwill ambassador in the fight against HIV/AIDS, noting measurable progress in Buganda, including a 21% decline in new HIV infections since 2020.
Soumendra Sahu, CEO and Managing Director of Airtel Uganda the main sponsors of the run, encouraged Ugandans to participate actively. “We are all runners and advocates. When you wear this kit, you are not just running—you are showing that you care. You are part of the solution to end the AIDS pandemic. Let us outdo ourselves. Run for a future where HIV/AIDS is a story of the past.”

Speaking at the same event, Owek. Hajj Prof. Twaha Kigongo Kaawaase, First Deputy Premier (Katikkiro) of the Kingdom of Buganda, called on participants to get their kits early at UGX 25,000 with volume discounts available from Majestic Brands.
Uganda AIDS Commission, represented by Canon Ruth Senyonyi, reaffirmed its support, committing UGX 30 million to the run and urging communities to adopt preventive measures such as testing, adherence to treatment, and safe practices.
Last year, more than 120,000 runners—mothers, fathers, students, and families—joined the cause to support Uganda’s goal of ending HIV/AIDS by 2030. The Kabaka Birthday Run stands as a testament to the power of collective action, partnerships, and community spirit. “Run for your daughter. Run for your brother. Run for your neighbour. Run for a future where HIV/AIDS is a story of the past,” urged Airtel Uganda leadership.
With continued collaboration between the Kingdom of Buganda, Airtel Uganda, UNAIDS, Uganda AIDS Commission, Majestic Brands, and other partners, the 13th Edition promises to be the most impactful yet.
