Joint Security Forces Recover 28 Stolen Cattle In Kotido District
In a well-coordinated operation today, joint security forces recovered 28 cattle stolen from Panyangara Sub-county in Kotido District.
The forces also seized a firearm, a SAR 17373 with one live round of ammunition, and neutralised a rustler following an exchange of fire with Turkana herdsmen in Kotein.
The cattle had been stolen the previous night, prompting a rapid response from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Uganda Police Force (UPF), Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), and Internal Security Organisation (ISO). Working together, the security forces tracked down the criminals, intercepted them, and recovered the stolen livestock.
Lt Col Gaston Mugarura, Commander of the UPDF 405 Infantry Brigade at Nakaperimoru Army Barracks, expressed gratitude for the swift success of the operation. He confirmed that plans are underway to collaborate with local authorities to ensure the cattle are returned to their rightful owners. “We are grateful to the tracking team for their tireless effort and dedication in achieving this success in such a short time,” Lt Col Mugarura said.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by the joint security forces to enhance security, protect lives and property, and promote lasting peace in the Karamoja Sub-region.
The forces reaffirmed their commitment to tackling criminal activities and maintaining stability in the area.
