Jinja’s First Ebola Case Was Brother To Probable Deceased Patient
The Ministry of Health has revealed that the first case of Ebola registered in Jinja City was a contact to a suspected patient.
The deceased is a resident of Kayalwe B village, Buyengo sub-county, Jinja district. He has been identified as Dan Waiswa, 45, and linked to a probable case, his brother.
The confirmed fatal case died at his home on November 10 and was buried on November 12th, 2022. He was previously admitted at Buwenge Health Center IV in Buwenge Town Council earlier last week.
According to Health Minister Ruth Aceng, the deceased’s samples were collected at a private health Center in Luzinya, Buwenge on November 10 after he came for treatment displaying symptoms of the deadly disease.
Aceng says on suspicion of Ebola, health-workers at St Catherine Medical center, got his samples before he passed on.
She says the health Ministry has already started on contact tracing and epidemiological investigations have been activated.
Aceng further explains that the brother to the confirmed patient is linked to the Rubaga cluster that traveled to Jinja.
She says the brother was ill for 10 days and passed on the 3rd November 2022.
