The appointment of Jeje Odongo took place on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, during the official opening of the ministerial meeting, which was presided over by Retired Major Jessica Alupo, the Vice President of Uganda.

Expressing gratitude to the participants for electing him to lead the Ministerial Meeting, Odongo commended the government of Azerbaijan for its exemplary chairmanship, successfully navigating the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Odongo emphasized that, given the persistent challenges faced by member states, the objectives and principles of NAM remain crucial in the current global context.

Uganda is committed and looks forward to working with all members to uphold and protect these principles,” stated Odongo.

Under Uganda’s chairmanship, the vision is set for a “Stronger and United NAM that Contributes to a Better World for All.” The focus will prioritize international peace and security, combating terrorism, addressing humanitarian differences, and promoting sustainable development.

Minister Odongo called for increased cooperation and collaboration within the membership, urging fellow members to collaborate with Uganda to enhance the strength and unity of NAM. He emphasized that such collaboration would ensure the organization’s continued relevance and influence in international decision-making processes.
