Police in the Northern District of Pader have arrested a man for allegedly battering his cheating wife to death.

The suspect James Odong,46, and a resident of Oluk village, Opate Parish, Atanga sub-county killed his wife identified as Hellen Akumu on Sunday, September 18, after catching her in sexual intercourse with another man.

It is alleged by locals that Odong returned home that fateful night without prior notice and caught the cheating couple red handed on his matrimonial bed.

In a fit of rage, he pounced on Akumu, leaving gap for the other man to escape.

John Bosco Oola, the Oluk village LC1 chairman says Odong, a charcoal dealer collected dry grass and heaped on the deceased’s pubic area setting it ablaze before he fled into hiding, until Tuesday when he handed himself to police

“When he arrived at home, he found his wife (deceased) read-handed with another man in their bedroom naked, when he attempted to apprehend the man he, managed to flee leaving behind his clothes, Odong then picked a piece of wood with nails in it and started beating the wife until she died,”  Oola said.

Odongo was held at Atanga outpost in Atanga sub-county, where he was detained on murder charges. On Wednesday he was transferred to Pader Central Police station as investigations continue.

David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region Police spokesman says scene-of-crime officers already visited the crime scene and sticks used in the murder were recovered as investigations continue.

The deceased’s body was to Pajule Health Centre IV for a postmortem.
