Internal Affairs Reveals Why ‘Muzungu Boda’ Was Kicked Out of Uganda

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has clarified on circumstances under which New Zealander Reid Samuel James, alias “Muzungu Boda,” left the country.

Internal Affairs Ministry spokesperson Simon Peter Mundeyi, during a press briefing on Monday addressed speculations that Muzungu boda was deported from Uganda, explaining that he  was instead removed for lacking proper documentation.

“Last week we received several inquiries from individuals identifying themselves as fans of ‘Muzungu boda’, inquiring whether he was deported from Uganda and the reasons for the deportation. We did not deport this gentleman, we removed him. It was organized departure where if you a foreigner working on a wrong visa, you are allowed to return to the country if you have acquired the right papers” He said

He stated that the removal of Muzungu boda was distinct from deportation, which is typically ordered by a court of law or the Minister of Internal Affairs.

Mundeyi further revealed that he had been operating a non-charitable organization without securing a work permit, a clear violation of immigration regulations that prompted his removal. Additionally, he mentioned concerns over his mental state, citing social media recordings that raised red flags about his behavior.

In one jaw-dropping video, he drifted his boda boda with children aboard, leaving them crying after hitting their heads on the tarmac. In another, he snatched a bunch of bananas from a woman’s head and kissed her breast. The stunned woman got UGX 10,000 for her troubles, but many saw it as outright assault.

As if that wasn’t enough, at Entebbe Airport, Muzungu boda caused a scene, yelling at staff during his removal.

“We questioned his mental state,” Mundeyi revealed, adding that Reid had styled himself as a “government spokesman,” criticizing Uganda’s potholes and more despite lacking a work permit.

“Muzungu Boda” isn’t banned for life, though. He can return once he sorts out his paperwork.

For now, Uganda bids farewell to the controversial foreigner who caused both laughs and outrage.
