Police in Entebbe are holding Denis Kutesa, an intern nurse at Entebbe Grade B hospital  for allegedly raping a female patient and attempting to rape two others.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer Kampala Metropolitan Police, says that Kutesa was arrested on Saturday and locked up at Entebbe Central Police Station.

He explains that the suspect identified his victim from the Gynacology ward and drugged her with a substance  suspected to be chloroform before raping her. Owoyesigyire says the suspect identifies his victims as patients from the ward.

He states that police retrieved substances from Kutesa’s residence believed to be used in the crime.

“Suspected chloroform substances were recovered from his place of residence at the hospital, and a letter was found where he requested to be prayed for immoral thoughts he had been experiencing,” said Owoyesigyire in a statement.

He has called on other victims to come forward, saying that it is possible Kutesa abused other women.

“We urge anyone who may have been a victim to come forward and report to the nearest police station. We take all allegations of sexual assault very seriously, and we are committed to ensuring that justice is served for all victims,” he said.

He noted that the safety and security of patients in hospitals are of utmost importance to the police and we will work closely with all stakeholders to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
