Police Recover UGX 250,000 from Suspect in Sting Operation

The Territorial Police in Luweero District have arrested a medical intern at Luweero General Hospital for extortion after he allegedly demanded money from a patient’s family during a childbirth-related hospital visit.

The incident, which occurred on August 5th, 2025, came to light after a local anti-corruption group tipped off authorities about the unlawful demand for payment linked to a medical procedure.

According to ASP S. Twiineamazima, the Savannah Region Police spokesperson, a joint operation between the Police and hospital authorities was swiftly conducted, resulting in the suspect’s arrest at the point of receiving the money. Officers recovered UGX 250,000, which has since been exhibited as part of the ongoing investigation.

The intern remains in police custody as detectives continue to gather witness statements and consult hospital officials.

“The Luweero Police assures the public that any acts of corruption within public service institutions will be dealt with firmly,” ASP Twiineamazima said

He added that the force remains committed to safeguarding citizens’ rights and ensuring accountability in public health services.

Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
