Maj. Gen. George Igumba has been the commandant of Senior Command and Staff College-Kimaka since 2022 while Brig. Gen. Micheal Kabango now the new commandant was the Chief of Staff Land Forces before his appointment by the CDF, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Major General Don William Nabasa, the Joint Staff Policy and Strategy in the UPDF has presided over the hand over ceremony held at the War Game Center, at the Senior Command Kimaka in Jinja city. In his remarks, Maj. Gen. Don William Nabasa applauded Maj. Gen. George Igumba Kabalekasu for diligently serving the army for the past 45 years and also wished him well in his imminent retirement.

He has also congratulated Brigadier General Michael Kabango for his well-deserved appointment.

The outgoing commandant of Senior Commandant and staff college, Maj Gen George Igumba Kabalekasu in his remarks gave Glory to God who have enabled him to serve in the army for the last 45 years. He has also thanked the appointing authority, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the opportunity to serve in the army for all that long.

Maj. Gen. George Igumba added that he is too confident that the new commandant possess the wherewithal to take UPDF’s elite training college to the next level.

The incoming Commandant of Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC) Kimaka-Jinja, Brig. Gen Micheal Kabango thanked the outgoing Commandant for the great contribution to the college, adding that he will continue with the good work of the outgoing commandant and even make it better since the college handles international students.

The Uganda Senior Command and Staff College was founded in 2003 as a training facility for senior commanders in the Uganda People’s Defense Force, including the land forces, air forces, and special forces.

The training is intended to impart to the officers the necessary skills in military science as well as Peace Support Operations. It is also aimed at equipping the officers with the level of training that enhances their analytical skills in order to make them relevant in a modern military environment.
