Police are investigating circumstances under which a fire broke out at Keshwala factory and beverages depot in Walukuba ward in Jinja City Southern division on Tuesday morning.
It is alleged that the fire started at 4:30 am after what is believed to be highly flammable substances blew up, causing huge fire flames and a dark thick cloud of smoke.
Although the cause of fire is yet to be established, a section of casual laborers were leaving the premises claim the fire could have been started by a short circuit and was made worse by highly flammable substances around the same place.
James Mubi, the spokesperson for the Kiira Region, fire brigade teams from both the police and good samaritans managed to put out the fire before it spread throughout the entire factory.
The plastics manufacturing plant, spare parts stores, and the transport department were severely affected by the fire, but efforts to ascertain the exact losses are currently underway.
Mubi confirmed that the night-duty casual laborers, as well as the sodium silicate plant and administration blocks, were not affected by the fire. However, they have intensified their firefighting efforts to ensure that the situation normalizes before the day ends.
