HOUSING Finance Bank has today extended its services to Soroti district in a bid to bring services closer to the people and promote greater inclusion in the money economy.

At the new branch, customers will enjoy access to a wide range of services, including savings and current accounts, personal and business loans, mortgages, investment opportunities, and advisory services. In addition, the Bank’s digital platforms offer customers the flexibility to transact seamlessly online, complementing their in-person experience.

Speaking at the official opening of the branch, Vice President Jessica Alupo said the establishment of this Bank here is a clear demonstration of Government’s effort to bring services nearer to the people. “Indeed it’s a strategic intervention as it will go a long way in improving and enhancing the accessibility of financial services in this Teso Sub- Region,” Alupo said.

She called upon all the people of Teso to take advantage of all the products available in this bank branch to improve on their livelihoods. “Fellow Ugandans, as we approach our 2030 targets, we must deepen stakeholder engagement. The banking sector is one of the most consequential stakeholders in that journey,” the vice president said.

According to International Indicators, the financial sector contributes more than 30% to global GDP, and Uganda’s banks have consistently played a commendable role in national development — not only through employment, but by providing the lifeblood of growth: financial inclusion, financial stability, and hope.

Alupo further noted that banks help citizens dream responsibly and build sustainably adding that they are not only lenders but also enablers of dignity. She told the people of Teso Sub-region, that agriculture remains the backbone of the Teso economy; citrus, grain, cattle, and fisheries, poultry form the livelihood base for most households.

She emphasized that Soroti is emerging as a strategic agro-industrial hub, supported by government infrastructure and private capital. “So, this branch is an economic rebalancing tool. It brings services closer to you, reduces exclusion, and amplifies regional momentum,” Alupo said.

She commended Housing Finance Bank for choosing Soroti arguing that its presence indicates that Uganda is moving from banking as a service to banking as a driver of social-economic change. “Maintain this path. Continue innovating. Continue investing in communities. Continue serving with integrity and foresight,” the Katakwi Woman MP said.

The vice president said Uganda needs institutions that think long-term, and serve both urban and rural populations. “I am looking forward to a day when you will open another branch in the rural district of Katakwi,” she said. She thanked the management of Housing Finance Bank for the dedicated service to the people of Uganda.

Alupo said wealth and jobs are in the four sectors of Commercial agriculture, Industry/manufacturing, Services and ICT. “A commercial bank branch that we are opening today is well placed to facilitate all those four sectors,” she said.

She called upon the leaders and people of Soroti to engage this institution to understand its programs, leverage its products, and partner in its initiatives. “As I conclude, let me state that today, we have opened another chapter in Teso’s economic rise where growth is shared and services have been brought close to each and every Ugandan, she said. And now, with pride in the people of this region, and confidence in the promise of Uganda, I formally declare Housing Finance Bank – Soroti Branch open the vice president said.

This launch adds to the bank’s 22-branch network nationwide reinforcing its commitment to financial inclusion and economic empowerment.
