HOTLINE OPEN: 20 Million Shillings Reward for Information on Pastor’s Gun Attack
Police have announced a 20 million shillings bounty for information leading to the identification of the perpetrators behind the killing of SFC Soldier Richard Muhumuza, who was fatally shot last week.
Muhumuza, serving as a bodyguard to Pastor Aloysius Bujingo, lost his life when assailants on a motorcycle fired multiple shots in an attempt to target the pastor.
During a press briefing at the police headquarters on Monday, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga disclosed that the investigation has been transferred to the Special Investigations Division of the Criminal Investigations Division at Kibuli. Efforts are underway to locate both the firearm used in the attack and the individuals responsible.
Enanga stated that the police have gathered relevant reports, including postmortem, CCTV footage, forensic, and ballistic reports, to compile a comprehensive investigation report. To incentivize public cooperation, the police are offering a 20 million shillings cash reward for information on the suspects and the weapon used in the crime.
He adds that a dedicated telephone contact (074111333) has been established for receiving information related to the shooting, emphasizing that it is strictly for this investigation.
“This number is strictly for this investigation. We are also informing the public that there is a substantial cash reward of 20 m shillings which awaits any member of the public who can avail us with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the killer weapon, “he said
According to Enanga, preliminary information suggests that the pistol used in the crime is the same weapon involved in the killing of famous vlogger Isma Olaxes in May 2023. Olaxes was gunned down at the gate of his residence in the Kyanja suburb of Kampala. Enanga revealed that investigations have uncovered similar patterns in both attacks.
The police spokesperson has also criticized social media propagandists for spreading unsubstantiated information and theories on platforms. He highlighted that the internet is filled with various versions and statements, many of which are baseless and hurtful to the families affected.
Enanga assured the public that a competent team at the CID is actively investigating the matter, and a comprehensive report will be released soon, incorporating retrieved reports and CCTV footage.
“We want to tread carefully with this matter and avoid getting swayed by what is happening on social media. Some are claiming there is a marital conflict, and I acknowledge the religious context, but these versions are diversionary. We want to be thorough and provide a concrete and informative report,” added Enanga.
