Health Center Security Guard Defiles 15 -year- old Hospitalized Patient

Police in Gulu have arrested a security guard for defiling and infecting a 15-year-old girl with HIV, at a health facility.

The suspect identified as , Acaye Newton was apprehended on June 29th, 2024 from his duty post at the entrance of St. Philip Health Center II Kanyagoga, Gulu.

Acaye, is accused of repeatedly assaulting and twice molesting his victim before sending her away with death threats. The victim was admitted to the hospital with stomach complications and was undergoing treatment.

She alleges that Acaye stormed her hospital ward in the wee hours of the morning and lured her into following him to his duty post, a small room at the right side of the hospital’s gate entrance. While there, Acaye reportedly grabbed a bow and arrow and threatened the minor to undress or be killed. She further states that when she resisted he beat her up and forcefully removed her clothes and molested her twice.

David Ongom Mudong, Aswa West Police spokesperson, says the minor immediately reported the matter at Kirombe Police Post at 6am, after the suspect kicked her out. She was in excruciating pain and had sustained bruises on her private parts as a result of the sexual abuse.

Mudong further says that the victim was placed under counselling and PEP treatment after tests on Acaye returned positive for HIV.

Mudong says the case was registered  under CRB 255/2024 and Acaye charged with rape and aggravated defilement pending his production in court.

A total of 12,771 cases of defilement were reported to police in 2023, compared to 12,580 cases reported in 2022, giving an increase by 1.5 per cent in defilement cases registered countrywide. Of these, 3,846 cases were aggravated defilement. 300 were infected with HIV.
