Police in Gulu City are hunting for unknown assailants who attacked a mobile money shop in Lacan Kwite cell in Bardege-Layibi Division and shot dead the attendant.

The deceased Kenneth Olobo was shot multiple times in the stomach and died on Sunday at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital where was receiving  treatment.

Olobo was attacked by armed thugs reportedly clad in military attire on Saturday at 8 pm while finalizing his day’s work at the mobile money/agent banking shop in Gulu City. Eye witnesses allege that two gunmen dressed in camouflage wear, riding on a motorcycle fired live bullets in the air after the attack to scare off people before fleeing via the Gulu-Nimule highway.

Employees at the same shop allege that the attackers demanded that money to be transferred electronically but the services were not available. The goons then started randomly shooting at workers and later stole a large sum of money and several phones for mobile money transactions.

While others managed to escape bullets, Olobo was shot on his right side of the stomach and rushed to the hospital in a critical state.

The Aswa River Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP David Ongom Mudong, says police is investigating a double incident of aggravated robbery and murder.

“We are investigating a double incident of aggravated robbery and murder by shooting which took place on July 8, 2023 at around 9:10pm. The thugs discharged two bullets injuring Kenneth Olobo. He was rushed to Gulu regional referral hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on July 9, 2023 “said Ongom

According to the Aswa River Regional Police Commander, Damali Nachuha  police detectives have since visited the crime scene and investigations have commenced.
