Gov’t Gives Five Million Shillings To Families Of Victims In Freedom City Stampede

The President has ordered the government to provide five million shillings to each family that lost someone during the deadly stampede at Freedom City in Namasuba, Wakiso District.

According to the Vice President, Jessica Alupo the money is meant to enable families cater for burial expenses. Alupo announced this on Monday afternoon during a visit to Freedom City , the scene of the incident, to commiserate with the grieving families.

“Shs5 million shillings will be given to each of them for burial arrangements and other emergencies they incurred because of this unfortunate incident. The president feels it is important to support the bereaved the family with the shs5 million,” Alupo said

Alupo also engaged some families in a closed door meeting at Freedom City. She vowed that government would get to the root cause of the matter and ensure justice is served.

“We pledge to do thorough investigations and produce a detail report about what caused the stampede,” VP Alupo said.

The vice president reiterated police confirmation that 10 people including children died from the incident while eight are still hospitalized.

Alupo visited freedom city alongside the  Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj Gen Tumsuime Katsigazi ,senior police commanders.
