Government Seeks Shs 3.5 Trillion for 2023/24 Supplementary Budget
The government is seeking the approval of a substantial amount of Shs 3.5 trillion to support its supplementary budget for the fiscal year 2023/24.
Last week , the State Minister of Finance, General duties , Henry Musasizi presented a 3.5 billion supplementary budget request to Parliament for express approval. He stated that the budget handles un foreseen expenses like emergencies among other crucial matters.
In the breakdown of the supplementary budget, key allocations include Shs 11 billion shillings for the Ministry of Agriculture directed towards a goat breeding program, support services for meat exports, and promotion of the cashew nuts value chain.
The Ministry of Health is set to receive Shs 22 billion to fund medical interns and an additional Shs 3 billion to settle outstanding arrears.
37 billion is allocated to Munyonyo Convention Centre that is slated to host the upcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G77 summit conferences in Kampala. The office of the president will receive 26.7 billion to prepare for the forth coming NAM and G77 summits happening in January next year.
Under the same budget, the National Information and Registration Authority (NIRA) will be handed 300 billion shillings. Uganda Bureau of Standards (UBOS) receive 144 billion shillings to cater for the National Population Census.2.7 billion will go towards the renovation of the Gaddafi Mosque located at old Kampala.
Meanwhile. the Higher Education financing board 13 billion shillings .
Shs 100 billion will go for classified expenditures at the State House and Shs 1 billion for initiating infrastructure works at the Uganda Museum. The public service is slated to receive Shs 12 billion to address arrears for the money lenders’ association.
Additionally, Shs 5 billion is allocated for compensating Buganda, Bunyoro, and Toro Kingdom lands.
The Ministry of Gender is also seeking a supplementary budget of Shs 2 billion for the renovation of Gaddafi National Mosque, embroiled in a controversial land deal.
The budget will see an increase from 52 trillion to 56 trillion shillings.
