Government Reduces Driving License Fees for Motorcyclists and Riders in Categories A

The government, through the Ministry of Works and Transport, in collaboration with the Uganda Security Printing Company (USPC), has reduced the driving license rates for drivers and riders in motorcycle categories A, A1, and B1, with effect from August 1, 2024.

This development was confirmed in a public notice dated July 31, 2024.

Waiswa Bageya, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, said that the fee for the learner’s permit is now UGX 40,000, while that for the new license is UGX 100,000 for one year, UGX 130,000 for three years, and UGX 250,000 for five years.

License renewals will cost UGX 70,000 for a single year, UGX 100,000 for three years, and UGX 200,000 for five years. The payment for the duplicate would be UGX 60,000, and the extension would be UGX 60,000.

However, according to Bageya, driving licenses with other vehicle categories are exempt from the above prices, and extensions from A, A1, and B1 to other vehicle categories will still be subject to the regular old fees.

Previously, the cost of the leaner licenses was 60,000; the new license was 135,000 for a year, 230,000 for three years, and 330,000 for five years. Renewal was UGX 135,000 for a year, UGX 210,000 for three, and UGX 310,000 for five years.

The duplicate was UGX 121,000, and the extension cost was UGX 121,000.
