Government Allocates Shs432.440 Billion for Justice in 2024/25 Budget

As a form of commitment to a robust Legal System, government has allocated a substantial sum of Shs432.440 billion for the Administration of Justice, in the national budget for the fiscal year 2024/25.

The allocation encompasses various components, including case handling by different courts, procurement of furniture, and acquisition of vehicles and boats for improved judicial operations.

The Judiciary plans to utilize part of its budget to enhance its infrastructure and operational efficiency. This includes the procurement of furniture for six Justices of the Supreme Court, six new Judges, and five Registrars.

Additionally, the Judiciary aims to acquire 70 vehicles to support the mobility of ten High Court Judges, ten Deputy Registrars, 40 Chief Magistrates, and ten G1 Magistrates.

Furthermore, the plan involves the procurement of two boats to facilitate court operations in island areas.

For case Projections, the High Court Circuits are expected to handle 17,236 cases during the fiscal year 2024/25, while Magistrate Courts are projected to address a significant caseload of 216,228 cases.

The judiciary anticipates an average of 1,896 prisoners to be brought before the courts, with 15,000 remand inmates connected to the criminal justice system. Additionally, the Industrial Court is expected to dispose of 300 cases related to labor disputes.

  • Court of Appeal: 989 cases
  • Anti-Corruption Division: 320 cases
  • Civil Division: 2,100 cases
  • Commercial Division: 3,300 cases
  • Criminal Division: 2,280 cases
  • Family Division: 7,392 cases
  • Land Division: 7,000 cases
  • International Crimes Division: 100 cases
