A Ugandan military delegation representing the Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba visited China’s premier peacekeeping training this morning to explore potential cooperation areas in peace support operations training and capacity building.

The delegation was comprised of Maj. Gen. Felix Busizoori the 4Division Commander and Maj. Gen. Dan Kakono, the Commander Artillery Division. The delegation was taken through various training programs and initiatives at the Chinese facility.

The visit to China’s peacekeeping training base comes amid strengthened bilateral defence relations between Uganda and China, following the signing of a landmark military cooperation agreement under the auspices of Gen. Kainerugaba and his Chinese counterpart, General Liu Zhenli, member of China’s Central Military Commission and Chief of Staff of the CMC Joint Staff Department.

The Ugandan delegation conducted a comprehensive tour of China’s peacekeeping training base, which serves as the country’s primary facility for preparing military personnel for United Nations peacekeeping missions worldwide. The facility features simulated mission environments and cutting-edge training technologies that mirror actual conditions peacekeepers face in conflict zones.

During the tour, the Ugandan officials observed how the Chinese base resembles Uganda’s own Nakaseke Peace Support and Training Centre, which has become a regional hub for peacekeeping preparation. This similarity provided common ground for discussions about potential cooperation and experience sharing between the two nations’ peacekeeping training approaches.

The delegation was shown various specialized training programs, including integrated peacekeeping exercises conducted in realistic training environments that included simulated UN Military Observer Posts, urban blocks, and minefields.

The delegation’s visit to the peacekeeping training base comes after other significant diplomatic engagements during Gen. Kainerugaba’s visit to China, including participation in the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum and meetings with Chinese defence industry representatives.
