Gen. Kainerugaba Discusses Military Cooperation with Algerian Counterpart

The Chief of Defense Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met with his Algerian counterpart, General Saïd Chanegriha, to discuss military cooperation and bilateral ties. Gen. Kainerugaba was received with full military honors at the Algerian military headquarters in Algiers.

The Ugandan CDF was accompanied by top UPDF Generals, including Maj. Gen. James Birungi, the Chief of Defense Intelligence and Security, Maj. Gen. Bob Ogiki, Joint Staff Policy and Strategy, and Maj. Gen. Keith Katungi, the 5th Division Infantry Commander. Top military chiefs from several Algerian military branches attended the meeting.

The meeting focused on areas of mutual interest and cooperation between the UPDF and the Algerian military. In particular, the CDF and his counterpart discussed the upcoming signing of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding between the UPDF and the National People’s Army of Algeria.

This visit is part of Gen. Kainerugaba’s efforts to strengthen military ties with various countries. Since his appointment as CDF, the Ugandan General has held several meetings with counterparts from all regions of Africa and beyond.
