The UPDF Commander Land Forces Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has deactivated his Twitter account, citing sabotage by big tech companies.

Whereas many thought Muhoozi’s account which had more than 500,000 followers had been suspended over violation of its civic integrity policy, the account was deactivated by the General who is also the senior presidential adviser for special operations.

For any suspended account on Twitter, it retains the flag “Account Suspended” whereas where the user deactivates their own accounts , the flag “this account doesn’t exist” is retained.

From our assessment, it appears that Gen Kainerugaba deleted the account himself.

Moments before deleting the account the General had tweeted that he had learnt of a sabotage plot by big tech companies.

He however said that people should not worry as the ‘small voices’ of billions of the voiceless won’t be suppressed.
