President Yoweri Museveni who is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces has appointed Maj Gen James Birungi as the CMI Chief.
The former Commander of UPDF Special Forces replaces Maj Gen Abel Kandiho.
Maj Gen Kandiho has now been posted to South Sudan as a Uganda’s special envoy.
The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander Land Forces Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has congratulated the two officers.
“I congratulate both Maj.General Abel Kandiho and Maj.General James Birungi on their new appointments. Hongera sana,” Gen Kainerugaba posted on his Twitter handle.
