The State Minister for Internal Affairs, Gen David Muhoozi has justified the arrest of Bobi Wine after his arrival at Entebbe airport recently.

This was during the presentation of a statement on the recent incidents involving NUP Party leaders and some party supporters.

Gen Muhoozi revealed that supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) in their so called “One Million March” wanted to march to State House.

Gen Muhoozi said that security intercepted NUP supporters who were planning to enter State House, Entebbe.

On 30th September 2023, the NUP party President Robert Kyagulanyi, through social media platforms, announced his return from his political mobilization tour from Canada and South Africa to Uganda.

“His supporters mobilized people country-wide to turn up in big
numbers and go to Entebbe International Airport and welcome him; in a march dubbed “The one million march”, with the proclaimed intention to march to State House Entebbe among others,” Muhoozi said on Tuesday during plenary sitting.

“The “one million march” was intended to incite civil disobedience. In order to avert the lawlessness that could result from this, the
Police with other security forces, deployed proactively to
prevent the mobilization for the illegal procession and anticipated
associated mischief,” he said.

Muhoozi said some of the planners and organisers were arrested in areas of the Kampala Metropolitan Policing area, arraigned in court of law, and later released on bond.

He said Kyagulanyi and his supporters had to be restrained from causing havoc especially at the airport and the neighbouring business areas.

“The airport is a very delicate and busy place, so too are the roads and streets, which are shared by other users. Therefore, when security received information, most of it published in social media and therefore in the public domain, with accompanying calls for processions, and many with insurrectionist insinuations, these could not be taken lightly,” Muhoozi said.

“Preventative measures had to be taken. This country has a government and is governed by and according to the law. Anarchy cannot be permitted.”
