Paul Put, a coach who previously worked in Congo, is now the new head coach for the Uganda Cranes, the national football team.

This was announced by the President of the Ugandan Football Association (FUFA), Moses Magogo, in a short press conference. Put has signed a two-year contract.

Put is experienced and has managed other teams in Africa, such as Burkina Faso.

The Uganda Cranes will soon start playing in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. Put will work with a team of experts to help the players perform their best. Magogo, the FUFA President, believes in their choice of coach and is confident that Put will do well.

The football association received a lot of applications, but only a few were from Ugandans. Magogo explained that the local coaches who did apply didn’t meet the standards they were looking for.

He takes over from Morley Byekwaso, who was in charge temporarily after the previous coach, Milutin Micho Sredojevic, was let go due to a poor performance in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Paul Put’s job won’t be easy, as he needs to blend young and experienced players and address some issues from the previous coach, like his defensive tactics. Despite the challenges, fans are being asked to be patient and supportive during this transition period for the team.
