Molly Katanga, the widow of the deceased Henry Katanga, has been remanded by the Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court in connection to the alleged murder of her husband. She has also been committed to the High Court for trial by the presiding Chief Magistrate Erias Kakooza.

During her appearance before the court on January 24, 2024, Molly Katanga looked frail and ill. He lawyers informed court that she has been receiving medical treatment at Kampala International Hospital since November 2, 2023, reportedly due to injuries sustained during the incident.

An arrest warrant was issued for Molly Katanga on January 22,2024, after she repeatedly failed to respond to criminal court summons related to the murder.

The court on Wednesday read murder charges to her during the recent appearance and subsequently remanded her to Luzira Prison. The High Court will try her on the charges of murdering her husband. The court has instructed her to leverage her medical condition to seek bail at the High Court.

Molly Katanga is accused of orchestrating the crime, and two of her daughters, along with two others, are implicated in destroying evidence related to the case. The daughters are set to face trial for their role in destroying evidence.

The court disclosed that Henry Katanga expressed concern days before his murder, revealing that he felt he was being tracked by his wife. Molly is alleged to have orchestrated the murder, with her daughters aiding in covering it up.

The prosecution is relying on various reports, including DNA and ballistic experts’ findings. The suspects, including Molly Katanga and her daughters, are expected to appear in the High Court soon after the daughters were committed to the High Court for trial.
