Four Arrested in Mitooma District for Alleged Murder of Businessman
Police in Mitooma District have detained four people suspected of killing a businessman in Rukondo village, Igambiro Parish, Katenga Sub County.
Marcial Tumusiim, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi police, confirmed the incident and identified the suspects as Didas Tusiime (38), Xavier Ayebazibwe (38), Peter Mucunguzi (20), and Agatha Akampa (28), all residents of Rukondo village.
The victim, Godfrey Atuhaire (38), also a resident of Rukondo village, was allegedly murdered on February 11th, 2024.
Anselm Ainebyoona reported the case to Katenga police post on February 12th, stating that his brother, Atuhaire, had been strangled to death.
Initial inquiries suggested that Tusiime was romantically involved with Atuhaire’s wife, Akampa. Allegedly, they planned to kill Atuhaire so that Tusiime could marry Akampa as a widow. According to reports, the suspects strangled Atuhaire in his bedroom and made it appear as though he had hanged himself using a bedsheet.
However, a local resident claimed to have seen Tusiime entering Atuhaire’s house around 3:00 AM. An autopsy revealed internal head injuries and signs of strangulation, including damage to the windpipe.
The body was taken to Kitagata Hospital mortuary in Sheema District for further examination, while investigations continue.
