Former URC MD Remanded Over Forging Academic Papers

Former Managing Director of Uganda Railways Corporation, Stanley Ssendegeya, has been remanded to Luzira prisons on charges of allegedly forging academic documents to secure employment.

The Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate, Siena Owomugisha, read charges of forgery, uttering a false document, and giving false information against Ssendegeya.

The prosecution claims that in July 2020, Ssendegeya forged a Curriculum Vitae indicating a false Master’s Degree in Business Administration and submitted it to Uganda Railways Corporation.

It is further alleged that during the same period, he provided false information to a recruitment firm, Deloitte Uganda Limited. Ssendegeya pleaded not guilty, and the court was informed that investigations are ongoing.

Seeking bail on medical grounds due to a stroke condition requiring specialized medical attention not available in prison, Ssendegeya presented his wife, son, and mother-in-law as sureties.

The court is set to deliver a ruling on the bail application on November 27, 2023, while the accused remains in Luzira Prison until then.

Reports indicate that Ssendegeya was apprehended by detectives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit while en route to Nakasero Hospital for regular stroke medication.

The case highlights allegations of document forgery and false information in the employment process, bringing attention to the broader issue of integrity in professional qualifications.
