Veteran Democratic Party leader Paul Kawanga Ssemwogerere has been rushed to hospital after collapsing during mass at Rubaga Cathedral.

There was panic as the 1996 presidential candidate fell from the chair he was seated before good Samaritans carried him out of the church. He was then driven to a yet to be identified medical facility for treatment.

Ssemogerere contested for the country’s Presidency in 1996 and lost to incumbent President Yoweri Museveni.

The 86-year-old Ssemogerere who has since retired from active politics was a key DP leader for 25 years until his retirement in 2005.

Meanwhile, a close relative has posted on social media that the veteran politician has regained his consciousness and that he was even able to talk and crack jokes.
