As Women’s Month comes to a close, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a high-level luncheon at the Wapakhabulo Auditorium to honour women in diplomacy under the theme “Give to Gain.” The gathering brought together serving and retired female diplomats, alongside partners, to celebrate the invaluable contributions of women to diplomacy, governance and society, while creating space for reflection and forward-looking dialogue on leadership and transformation.
Hon. Henry Okello Oryem, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), underscored the Ministry’s unique role in advancing Uganda’s global interests and emphasized the importance of supporting women in service: “Our work spans trade, tourism, peace, and security and women are central to this success. The challenges they face are real and must be addressed with intention.”
Delivering the keynote address, Pastor Jessica Kayanja spoke on resilience and intentional living, noting that: “Emotional intelligence, discipline, and clarity of purpose are the foundation of lasting success.”

Rtd Amb. Rosemary Semafumu Mukasa highlighted the human side of diplomacy, emphasizing balance and adaptability across career and family life, while Permanent Secretary Mr. Vincent Waiswa Bagiire called for the insights shared to inform policy and sustained institutional action.
The event also paid tribute to the late Amb. Santa Laker Kinyera and other departed female diplomats whose service continues to inspire. Moving forward, the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowering environment where women in diplomacy can thrive and lead.
