Police in Entebbe are investigating circumstanced under which a dormitory at St. Theresa – Kisubi Girls Primary School caught fire.

The fire broke out around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday while the students were already outside, preparing for their lessons. It destroyed property worth millions of Shillings. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries, according to school administrators and the police.

The school acted swiftly, evacuating the students to older buildings in the parking lot to ensure their safety. The Deputy Headmaster, Gerald Kizito, assured that all students and staff were safe, and the Headmistress.

Kampala Metropolitan Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident and reassured parents that no injuries or loss of life occurred. He mentioned that officers were still investigating the “unknown” cause of the fire.

Regarding parents’ complaints about restricted access of parents to the school, the officer explained that it was done for various reasons, including child safety, protecting property, and maintaining the integrity of the investigation scene. He also cited concerns about potential disputes among parents that could be exploited to harm children who are not their own.
