Finance Ministry Commits to Fund Completion of Namboole Stadium

State Minister for Finance, Amos Lugoloobi, assured that the remaining Shs17 billion needed to finish the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, would be provided.

Lugoloobi made this commitment on April 12, 2024, during a parliamentary session aimed at clarifying the whereabouts of the Shs17 billion allocated for the stadium’s renovation.

Responding to Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among’s inquiry regarding the missing funds, Lugoloobi stated, “Effective today, we are going to trigger the process to ensure that the money is available.”

Among had directed the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development to clarify the situation, emphasizing, “Can we get an understanding from the Minister of Finance because the whole blame is going to finance? Then, after releasing all the money, we shall put the task back to the Minister of Sports to ensure that the stadium is complete.”

Meanwhile, Peter Ogwang, the State Minister for Sports, presented a status report on the readiness of Mandela National Stadium.

Ogwang revealed that despite repeated requests from his ministry to release the outstanding Shs17 billion for the stadium’s completion, the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development had not responded.

The developments unfolded during a session on April 11, 2024, where the State Minister for Sports was tasked with reporting on the stadium’s preparedness for the upcoming CHAN and AFCON tournaments.
