An American tourist, Ms Kimberly Sue Endicott and her tour guide Jean Paul Mirenge, who were last week kidnapped in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park have been rescued by a joint security operation.
According to a source that is involved in the joint operation, the rescue of the American tourist by UPDF Special Forces was conducted on DRC territory, something that was aided by improved military cooperation between the two countries since new DRC President Felix Tshisekedi assumed office in January this year.
A highly placed security source that was involved in the rescue operation has confirmed to the Nile Wires.
Security forces embarked on a joint operation to hunt the gunmen who kidnapped the American Tourist and a Ugandan tour guide from Queen Elizabeth National Park earlier this week.
The kidnap happened on Tuesday between 5pm and 7pm, according to a joint security statement issued after the incident.
According to Police, the gunmen ambushed a vehicle registration number UAE 777E which was carrying four tourists and varnished with two of them. They also went with the car keys, leaving the other two tourists stranded.
“The kidnapping happened between near Katoke Gate in the Queen Elizabeth National Park. The other occupants of the van who were left behind managed to contact a few people; who came to their rescue,” the statement indicated.
