State Minister of Information and Communication Technology Idah Nantaba has survived an attempted assassination in Kayunga.

Reports indicate unknown gunmen who were travelling on a sport bike trailed Nantaba before she alerted the Police.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire, the Kayunga legislator was suspicious of the men on the motorbike before she called the Nagalama Police station which alerted other stations.

“The Police then started patrolling and monitoring the surroundings before the gunmen opened fire which prompted the Police to fire back before killing one of the gunmen on spot,” Owoyesigire told NTV.

The Police are now investigating the incident as the hunt for the other gunmen continues.

The gunmen were travelling on a motorbike REG NO UDL 822A.

This attempt on Nantaba comes months after a number of high profile killings with the last being that of former Buyende DPC Muhammed Kirumira last year.

Since the brutal killing of the police officer, the government has embarked on the installation of CCTV camera to monitor major roads and towns in Kampala and surrounding areas.
