FDC’s Doreen Nyanjura Trounced in KCCA Speaker Race

Independent candidate Abubaker Kawalya has been elected Speaker of Kampala Capital City Authority Council.

He won the election with 17 votes, beating Doreen Nyanjura who got 14 votes and Muhammed Segirinya with only one vote.

Nyanjura was endorsed by the FDC party and openly supported by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.

The election took place at the KCCA Chambers today.

The speaker will preside over council meetings, a role initially played by the Lord Mayor under the old law.
