FDC Set to Elect New National Executive Committee, Over 1,000 Delegates Accredited
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) is holding a conference where 1,271 delegates are expected to attend.
These delegates come from different categories, including District Chairpersons, General Secretaries, Secretaries for Publicity and Mobilization, Women League Chairpersons, and Youth Secretaries. At the constituency level, Chairpersons and General Secretaries are invited, with one of them being a female.
The purpose of this conference is to elect a new National Executive Committee (NEC) for the party. Contestants will have the chance to campaign before the delegates, and the winners will be announced and sworn in on the same day.
It’s important to note that some individuals may be against these elections, which could lead to a constitutional crisis because the current NEC’s term ends tonight.
The chairman of the FDC Electoral Commission, Boniface Bamwenda Toterebuka, emphasized that anyone attempting to disrupt the event will face consequences. Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the party’s Secretary General, stated that they are well-prepared for the conference and warned against any attempts to cause chaos.
To ensure security, the venue, Patidar Samaj Sports Ground in Lugogo Kampala, has seen an increased police presence. The party’s security committee is also on site to make sure that only authorized individuals with FDC tags can enter after undergoing security checks.
