FDC Launches Digital Membership Registration Ahead of 2026 Elections
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, based in Najjanankumbi, has launched a digital portal for membership registration, replacing the former paper-based system. This move was described by the party President, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, as a solution to the high costs and inefficiencies of the old system.
Robert Centenary, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Kasese municipality, highlighted that FDC is the first political party to introduce digital membership registration ahead of the 2026 general elections. He expressed pride in the party’s innovation, noting that this online registration allows people nationwide to join without the need for paper cards.
Yusuf Nsibambi, the FDC party whip in Parliament, emphasized that digital registration will combat fraud and streamline the party register. He clarified that only the FDC office in Najjanankumbi is authorized to issue membership cards, ensuring that party activities are properly regulated. Nsibambi also invited party mobilizers based at Katonga to adopt the new technology.
According to Amuriat, the cost of membership varies: an ordinary party card is UGX 5,000, a blue-code membership card is UGX 50,000, bronze membership is UGX 1 million, silver membership is UGX 2 million, gold membership is UGX 3 million, platinum membership is UGX 5 million, and life membership costs UGX 10 million. Amuriat stressed that failing to register excludes individuals from party decision-making and leadership opportunities, emphasizing that registration will be strictly managed by FDC under his leadership.
Amuriat urged critics to cease their opposition and register with the party, promising nationwide tours starting in the northern and eastern regions of Uganda to mobilize support and recruit new members.
