Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi has blamed the loss by Asinasi Nyakato in the Hoima Woman MP byelection on the leadership of the opposition members especially the FDC.

Mr Kyagulanyi said forces in the opposition frustrated Nyakato for identifying with People Power.

In Hoima, NRM’s Harriet Businge beat Asinansi Nyakato, a joint opposition candidate by over 4,000 votes.

NRM’s Businge garnered 33,301 votes against Nyakato’s 28,789 votes.

In a veiled attack on FDC to which Nyakato belongs, Bobi Wine said, “There are those who have decided at every point to put their personal or party interests above the interests of the people of Uganda. We condemn this behavior and moving forward, we must have discussions and decide what is more important.

He noted that as People Power, they joined in to support an FDC candidate because they ‘place the struggle for a better Uganda above anything else.’

“It defeated all logic to see some leaders, apparently, in the opposition, do everything to frustrate comrade Nyakato’s victory simply because she embraced and identified with People Power,” Bobi Wine posted on his Facebook page.

On Tuesday this week, Bobi Wine was in Hoima where he campaigned for the FDC candidate, urging her to fully represent ‘People Power’ when she gets to Parliament.

Bobi Wine who was in the company of other musicians; Jose Chameleone, Ronald Mayinja, and Mathias Walukagga clashed with FDC officials who accused them of trying to hijack a candidate they had sponsored.

In the Kaabong contest, NRM’s Christine Tubo Nakwang comfortably beat FDC’s Judith Nalibe Adyaka.

Nakwang got 22,532 votes while her challenger Adyaka polled 1,692.

Museveni Speaks out

Meanwhile, President Yoweri Museveni has thanked the people of Hoima and Kaabong districts for voting the National Resistance Movement in the Woman MP by-elections that happened on Thursday.

Mr Museveni who is the NRM national chairman noted that despite the lies and propaganda by opposition members, the people still voted the NRM candidates.

“The people of Hoima, mwebale muno, thank you for voting the National Resistance Movement, and my daughter Harriet Mugenyi. You have chosen to consolidate the NRM achievements, by voting a pro-development MP,” Mr Museveni posted on his Facebook page.

Mr Museveni added: “Our people of Kaabong, Alakara nooi, you have shown that even with the lies from the Opposition, you know where the light is. I congratulate My daughter Tubo Christine Nakwang for winning the woman MP by-election.”

He continued: “I also congratulate the NRM structures in the two districts for doing a good job and delivering these victories. The NRM is stronger than ever and its vision is correct.”
