Fatal Collision on Kampala-Gulu Highway Claims Three Lives, Leaves Two Injured

An accident on the Kampala-Gulu Highway has resulted in the loss of three lives and injuries to two others.

The incident involved a silver T-Hiance motor vehicle with registration number SSD 770CK and a yellow Nile Star bus with registration number UBG 085C.

David Mudong Ongom, the Regional Police Spokesperson for Aswa-Gulu Region, reported that the accident occurred on April 12, 2024, around 3:00 am at the Karuma checkpoint in Nwoya District. One of the deceased has been identified as Aisha Namatovu, while one of the injured is Ramathan Shaban.

The identities of the other deceased individuals remain unknown. According to Ongom, the T-Hiance was traveling from Kampala to Juba via Gulu.

Near the Karuma checkpoint, approximately half a kilometer away, it attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided with the Nile Star bus, which was heading in the opposite direction towards Kampala.

The impact was on the passenger side of the T-Hiance, resulting in fatalities and injuries among its passengers. Ongom attributed the cause of the accident to reckless driving by the T-Hiance driver.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to Anaka Hospital for postmortem examinations, while the injured were taken to the RG Health facility in Karuma town council for treatment.
Both drivers are currently evading authorities.
