Energy Minister Calls For Collective Prosperity and New Leadership in Mineral Development

Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Nankabirwa, emphasized the importance of teamwork in maximizing Uganda’s resources, driving economic growth, and ensuring collective prosperity for all citizens.

Nankabirwa delivered these remarks during the handover ceremony of the Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development, responsible for minerals, held at Amber House on Thursday, March 28, 2024.

In her speech, Nankabirwa lauded the outgoing Minister, Dr. Peter Teko Lokeris, for his exceptional service to both the ministry and the nation.

She warmly welcomed the incoming Minister, Phiona Nyamutoro, highlighting that her appointment reflects her commendable abilities.

“I am confident you will bring a fresh perspective because you represent the energy and aspirations of Uganda’s youth. Your academic achievements, advocacy for gender equality, and focus on education and sports in Parliament demonstrate your commitment to building a better future for all Ugandans,” Nankabirwa remarked.

Nankabirwa emphasized the potential of Uganda’s mineral resources to propel economic growth and drive socio-economic development within communities.

“As you step into this critical role, you inherit a sector brimming with opportunities. Uganda’s mineral resources hold the potential to drive economic growth and uplift communities into socio-economic development,” she stated.

Nyamutoro pledged to tirelessly advance the nation’s interests, stating, “I pledge to work tirelessly to advance the interests of our nation and ensure that our mineral wealth benefits all Ugandans, especially those in marginalized communities.”

She committed to building upon Dr. Lokeris’ legacy and propelling the sector to new heights.

Nyamutoro urged Nankabirwa to pursue progress and prosperity while upholding the principles of integrity, transparency, and inclusivity.

“With your support and collaboration, I am confident that we can achieve our shared vision of a thriving Uganda where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive,” Nyamutoro affirmed.
