The latest review for Bebe Cool’s forthcoming album Break the Chains has come from none other than Elijah Kitaka.
Known for hit songs like Nothing, Dawa, and the recent Ekyange, Kitaka described Bebe Cool’s new musical journey as deeply inspirational.
Speaking during an exclusive listening session, Kitaka shared that the album gave him a newfound appreciation for a different side of Bebe Cool—an artist striving to reach new global audiences while staying true to his musical roots.
“As I listened to the album, I got to experience another side of Bebe Cool—his passion and originality. There’s a song where he does something that lingers in your mind,” Kitaka remarked.
He added that Bebe Cool’s efforts to create music for an international market serve as an inspiration for up-and-coming artists like himself, emphasizing the potential and impact such a path can have on others in the industry.
Kitaka also praised the quality of the album, noting that while it reaches for international appeal, it remains loyal to some authentic Ugandan musical progressions—something he believes emerging local artists can learn from and emulate.
What surprised Kitaka the most, however, was the invitation itself. He expressed gratitude that Bebe Cool, an artist he looks up to, recognized him enough to offer a first listen.
“As an upcoming artist trying to make a mark in the industry, I’m happy that he’s recognized me,” he said.
Bebe Cool has been teasing Break the Chains for over a year now. Toward the end of 2023, he traveled to Nigeria to collaborate with top producers and artists in preparation for the album.
However, for most of 2024, little was revealed about the project—until recently.
In a strategic buildup to the release, Bebe Cool dropped the first single Circumference, followed by Motivation in February. Since then, excitement has been mounting as he gradually unveiled hints about the album’s direction and content.
As the release date draws closer, more influential Ugandans who’ve had early access to the album—such as A Pass, Juliana Kanyomozi, and Elijah Kitaka—have been sharing their impressions, giving the public a sneak peek of what to expect when the album officially launches on Friday.
The album, recorded mainly between Nigeria and Uganda, is highly anticipated, not only because of its sound but also due to the unique and bold way it has been marketed.
Although specifics about the number of tracks or guest appearances have been kept tightly under wraps, many fans have speculated that Joshua Baraka will feature, following the circulation of a studio video showing the two artists working together.
Break the Chains is scheduled to premiere across all major streaming platforms—YouTube Music, Tidal, Apple Music, AudioMack, Deezer, and Spotify—in the early hours of Friday morning. However, a select group of fans and artists will get the first full listen during an exclusive album preview party on Thursday night.
