The Electoral Commission (EC) today concludes the nationwide display of the National Voters Register, a pivotal step in the lead-up to the 2025–2026 General Elections.

This exercise, which commenced on April 25, 2025, has provided Ugandans with the opportunity to verify their voter information, correct any inaccuracies, and report ineligible entries. Polling stations across the country have been open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including weekends, to facilitate this process.

Justice Simon Byabakama, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, emphasized the importance of this exercise in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. He urged citizens to participate actively by confirming their details and reporting any discrepancies.

Following the conclusion of the display period, the EC will publish lists of proposed changes, including recommended deletions, at parish and ward headquarters from May 16 to May 26, 2025. During this supplementary display period, citizens can review the proposed updates and appeal any decisions they disagree with.

The Electoral Commission has reiterated that no new voter registrations or transfers are being processed during the display period. Citizens are encouraged to take this process seriously to ensure that the upcoming elections are free, fair, and reflective of the will of the people.

The primary objectives of the exercise were to: Allow voters to verify the accuracy of their personal information on the register, Confirm that their photographs appear correctly alongside their details, Raise objections to any inclusions or omissions of voter information, Report specific cases for removal, including: Deceased individuals, Persons under 18 years of age, Individuals who reside or originate from a parish other than the one they are registered in, Persons who appear more than once on the register.

Additionally, eligible voters who had applied for registration but whose particulars were missing on the register were given the opportunity to present their cases for inclusion.

Supplementary Display Period

Following the main display period, the EC has scheduled a supplementary display of the lists of persons recommended for deletion from the National Voters Register. This will take place from May 16 to May 26, 2025, at each respective Parish/Ward Headquarters. During this period, individuals who may have been wrongly recommended for deletion can object to the Parish/Ward Tribunal, which will make the final decision concerning recommendations for inclusion, deletion, or correction.

Current Voter Statistics

As of the latest update, the National Voters Register comprises approximately 19.9 million registered voters. The EC had initially targeted registering up to four million new voters during the general update exercise conducted from January 20 to February 10, 2025. However, challenges such as limited registration kits and technical issues resulted in the registration of approximately 361,432 new voters during the initial 21-day period.

The Electoral Commission urges all stakeholders and the general public to actively participate in the supplementary display period to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the National Voters Register. This exercise is vital to guarantee that all eligible voters are duly registered and can exercise their right to vote in the forthcoming elections.
