EALA Adopts 2024/25 Budget Report

USD 810,000 for public outreach and sensitization

The East African Legislative Assembly, in a sitting at the EAC headquarters in Arusha, has adopted the committee’s report on general purpose regarding the EAC budget estimates for revenue and expenditure for the financial year 2024/25.

The committee recommended that the Assembly urge the Council to approve EALA’s request for USD 810,000 for public outreach and sensitization to enhance the visibility of the Community. Additionally, the committee suggested that this type of funding be accommodated in the supplementary budget for FY 2024/25.

According to the committee report, the budget for the financial year 2021/25 was prepared in line with the global and sector-specific priority areas and targets agreed upon at the Pre-Budget Conference held from October 23rd-24th, 2023, and adopted by the 53rd Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers, as well as the directives and decisions of the Council Summit.

In the financial year 2024/25, the Community will focus on key priority areas, including:

Strengthening regional peace, security, political, and governance mechanisms to maintain stability in the Community
Enhancing intra-regional trade and investment by improving the business environment
Enhancing the social and productive sectors to increase productivity and raise the standards of living for East Africans, among others.
The Assembly adopted the committee report and passed the EAC Appropriation Bill 2024, which provides for a total sum of USD 114,425,842.
