Drop the Post Colonial style of Governance – Mayiga

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga has said that most African countries especially Nigeria and Uganda have a strong affinity to their nationalities i.e. tribes/ethnic groups as they trust their Kings, Chiefs and other cultural leaders. The Katikkiro made the remarks at Bulange Mengo while welcoming ex Nigerian President Jonathan Goodluck and  King Amalate who had paid a courtesy call at Buganda Kingdom headquarters.

Mayiga said, “It is important that we as Africa, put a stop to the management style of post-colonial African states that ignores the role of Kings, and other traditional leaders, since their participation in emancipation programs is a condition precedent to transformation that nearly all of Africa yearns, since the people trust them.”

On his part, President Jonathan Goodluck thanked the Katikkiro for the warm welcome accorded to him and his entourage and appreciated the role the Kingdom of Buganda plays in transforming people’s lives. He described Buganda Kingdom as, “the heartbeat of the country”.

He said, “strong kingdoms which support the public significantly contribute to the countries social and economic development”. He further applauded  the King of Buganda for his leadership that has enabled the Kingdom of Buganda to engage in various social economic activities that have in turn contributed to the development of the Kingdom and the country.
